Human Rights
Protection Activities Accomplished
After the
collapse of law and order in Somalia for over
sixteen years the country had become the scene of
all sorts of constant human rights violations and
victimization of the vulnerable and minority
groups. In order to find salutations to the abuses
of human rights in Somalia many organizations
formed and (OSPAD) Organization for Somalis’
Protection and Development was in the vanguard of
such organizations. Ever since it was founded
OSPAD actively advocated for the protection and
respect of human rights in Somalia particularly in
central and south of Somalia where OSPAD
operates.
OSPAD has decided to intervene in
the human rights disaster or human abuses
perpetrated in Somalia through focusing on
protection of human rights and prevention of gross
human rights violations OSPAD has come up
with effective mechanisms of
INVESTIGATION, DOCUMENTATION, MONITIRING AND
ADVOCACY.
via investigating, documentation,
monitoring and advocacy OSPAD has succeeded to
document and investigate thousands of cases
pertaining to violation of human rights ranging
from rape, torture, illegal killings, robbery,
looting, sexual harassment etc which became
ordinary acts and parts of everyday life in
society in war ravaged Somalia. OSPAD has
challenged 35% of the acknowledged cases by
advocating for their rights and almost 28% of 35%
of theses cases have been successfully solved or
managed and the lost rights restored to the
concerned victims.
Furthermore
OSPAD has achieved to educate many Somali
community parts on human rights and international
human rights principles through training,
seminars, debating and provision of other
awareness building
