Socio-economic
recovery activities implemented by
OSPAD
In the absence of government together with
prolonged political insecurity and instability in
Somalia different social problems emerged such as
lack of income generation opportunities and
unemployment. Since all governmental and non
governmental institutions of social economic
aspects and factors have collapsed and most
community income sources were inadequate or not in
place.
This has resulted in the marginalization
economically of 85% of the community parts in
general, so in that aspect OSPAD has
decided and planned to respond to socio-economic
misfortunes of the communities through
establishing social economic recovery project
called Somali chickens farm for the income
generation cum job creation initiatives.
This
project which has been initiated to assist the
most vulnerable or the poorest members of the
Somali society in OSPAD’s geographical area hosts
5000 (five thousand chickens that produce 2500
(two thousand five hundred eggs per day. 35% of
the farm production is oriented and distributed to
the vulnerable families composing of leaders of
widowed women, orphans, street beggars, and others
from the IDP camps in Mogadishu.
This
assistance although meager is a positive and
better- than- nothing benefit for these destitute
families. These beneficiaries of the chicken farm
products market these eggs in main markets and in
this way manage earring a daily income.
